Friendship Forged in Fun
Our paths finally crossed at UNLV while hanging out in the Honors College Lounge between classes. We really became friends after both joining the Honors Rebellion, beginning obstacle course training for the Tough Mudder, and playing ultimate frisbee at the park on the weekends.
During our first Tough Mudder in San Bernardino, Sam was battling a severe flu she had caught a few days prior. Despite feeling unwell, she chose to participate because she's not a quitter and had already invested over $200 on the ticket and special trail running shoes—a significant expense for a college freshman working at a small print shop. The race itself is notoriously tough, even more so for someone with the flu. Nevertheless, we both completed the 10 mile course and had an absolutely electric time! (IYKYK)
When the bus stopped in Barstow for food on the way home that night, Sam decided to stay behind because she was too exhausted and sick to do anything but rest. Josh was the only one who noticed her absence and went back to ask if she was ok and if she needed anything. It was in that moment when Sam took a real interest in Josh.

Our First Trip Together
Itching for adventure, we decided to take a trip to the biggest hole on the planet - The Grand Canyon! We packed up the car with all the essentials and set out for a 3-day weekend where we hiked around the canyon ridge, camped under the stars, and took an unexpected off-roading adventure. Sam lost one of her contacts mid-trip which meant she had no choice but to give her keys to Josh. In search of a good lookout area and less crowded trails to trek, we decided to take a windy trail up a mountain. Josh was so excited to take her Jeep through the brush and the mud. Upon reaching the end of the trail at the top of the mountain, we found a tall tower and decided to climb up to the top. Taking in the view we were startled to find we weren't alone. A bearded man in the tower popped his head out and instead of yelling at us to get off of the private property, he invited us in and gave us a half-hour master class on finding, tracking, and calling in forest fires.

Our "First Date"
Josh and Sam had been hanging almost everyday at this point. They would go out to eat after studying during the week and go on hikes on the weekends with Molly, Sam's family dog.
Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 had just come out and Sam wanted to go see both. Josh suggested they go to the drive in for a double feature. He offered to pick Sam up in his truck so they could bring pillows, blankets, and all the snacks they wanted. Sam thought Josh was finally making his move. Josh, being the penny pincher that he is, suggested the double feature and packing their own snacks because it was the significantly cheaper than seeing two movies in the theater and buying our own snacks from concessions (SMHx1000).
We packed a delicious concoction of hot chocolate, coffee, and Bailey’s and Sam's famous popcorn mix of caramel, salted butter, and peanut M&Ms. Even after cuddling up to watch movies in the back of his truck for 4 hours under the stars, Josh had no clue that it was a date.

Making it Official
Sam went on a 10 day tip to Costa Rica with her friend Bryce and while she was gone, Josh finally realized he had major feelings for her and needed to make his move. She came back to the country just in time for her annual 4th of July party. Josh showed up and greeted her with a huge hug and a bouquet of flowers. We made it official the next day.

Doing Long Distance
After only dating officially for a month, Josh went to Germany for 7 months to study abroad an explore his family history. During his time overseas he also visited 12 different countries some of his favorites being Morocco, Sweden, Spain, and Hungary.

Just Good Times
During this time, we were mostly focused on finishing school. No major milestones were hit in our relationship during this time, but we did have a lot of fun together and made a lot of good friends.

COVID-19
When Covivi swept the globe, everything changed. Josh was forced to finish his last semester of college online and both of our jobs went fully remote. At the time, Josh was living with his best friend Cody. Sam went over almost every Friday for dinner, drinks, and a round of Monopoly City - a game notorious for building strong friendships (because Sam certainly didn't steal Josh's biggest property EVERY TIME THEY PLAYED).
With all of the newly-found free time due to remote work and everything being closed, Sam painted a few murals around town, started teaching art classes for kids, and even created a board game that raised over $50K on kickstarter a year later. Josh played a lot of video games and built sculptures out of beer cans.

Our First House
Eight months into the fun-demic, we bought a house and decided to live the life of Bob & Beatris the Builder. To celebrate the purchase of our new home, we hosted Friendsgiving a few weeks after moving in and asked that attendees bring both food and their own chairs since we did not have any furniture... at all. Home projects kept us occupied while we hid from the virus and continued this fun thing called “work from home” (a.k.a. “pester Sam all day”).

We got a cat
After half a year, We decided it would be better for Josh to annoy a pet rather than his sane-r half, so we got a cat. His name is "King George" (peculiar coincidence that he was named after the country genius). He's a rather lazy potato, preferring to spend his time purring in one perch or another, except when he's loudly licking the bed frame in the middle of the night like a paint chip-nibbling dipshit.
... two days later
We got another cat
Josh made the mistake of looking at 2 cats and Sam made the mistake of thinking that allergy pills were effective, and another cat was brought home. His name is Elon, though he's commonly referred to as Elonius Petronius the Homiest Eloniest. Despite her hatred of and allergies caused by cats, Sam is secretly happy we got him because he is so playful and goofy. He's often heard yowling before doing parkour off of walls and furniture.

Our Second House
Since we ran out of things to fix, and because Sam needed more space to store her plethora of clothes, we moved again! We currently enjoy a scenic view of the city and pickleball courts practically in our own backyard. We are currently renting out our first house and are planning to do the same with our second one sometime next year.

Trip Across South America
Josh and his friend Thomas planned a month-long trip down south, country-hopping from Mexico to Peru. Even while remote working during their travels, they were able to explore some amazing cities and try some wonderful foods (lots of tacos and Coronas but also some guinea pig as well). Sam joined them in the middle of their trip, meeting in Quito, Ecuador, the night before our flight to the Galápagos Islands. 3 days prior, Josh had bought a ring.

He Put A Ring On It
We woke up at 4:00AM in the dark to try to walk to the beach and catch the sunrise. It was taking way longer than we thought and the sky was threatening rain, so we had to start running if we were going to make it. Out of breath and at the end of the trail the the sun came up blocked by heavy overcast clouds but Josh didn't let that stop him from popping the question.
Sam said yes amongst the iguanas and blue footed boobies then spent the rest of the morning sculpting a sea turtle out of the four different colors of sand we found on that beach. Apparently it was so realistic multiple people passing by stopped to scold Sam about "touching the animals."

We got a dog
Sam had been wanting a dog for a while but it was never really feasible because she was rarely ever home. Once she quit her job at Resorts World and started her own business from home, she was finally able to get Whiskey! HE IS SO FLUFFY!
